Northlake News: Kenmore group to offer its vision
by Don Mann - Staff Writer
Kenmore’s Community Advisory Committee met for the fifth and final time Tuesday, March 31, to finalize the economic development strategy report it will present to the City Council sometime this spring on a date still to be determined.
The 11-member committee, appointed by the city in early 2008, represents a variety of municipal interests and participated in community outreach efforts to review research findings and develop a list of community goals and priorities.
The city of Kenmore, seeking to establish its identity, finds itself at the crossroads of change and economic viability.
The CAC were key participants in the Feb. 10 Community Open House attended by approximately 40 concerned citizens, at which the advisory committee solicited public input regarding four goals it had pinpointed over its year-long study designed to enhance Kenmore’s economy and overall community vitality.
A report produced by Berk & Associates, a strategy and analysis Seattle outfit contracted by the city, summarized those goals.
Goal I is to establish Kenmore’s image by promoting its high quality of life and many assets. Included among the strategies is to launch a community marketing campaign to raise Kenmore’s profile in the region, strengthen and more aggressively promote its community activities and events, and improve and expand parks and open spaces, recognizing them as a vital economic asset.
“We’re a city that’s waiting to happen,” CAC member Lizanne Lyons said. “There are some amazing gems here not visible along (State Route) 522. We should be promoting opportunity and possibility.”
The committee agreed that a new city marketing slogan — something other than “Kenmore by the Lake” — would be welcomed.
“This campaign needs a theme,” CAC member George Cody said. “There’s got to be a punch-line somewhere.”more…
Laurie’s Comments: I like the idea of a new slogan or marketing campaign for Kenmore. In Clairmont, California the unofficial tag line for the city is the city of “trees and PhD’s”. Another slogan for a small town in Idaho (Kootenai) I found intriguing was, ” A little town with a big future”
Any ideas for a new slogan or theme for Kenmore?
